A synthesis of classic leadholder shape & established fountain pen proportions capillaris is a compact writing instrument. Each piece is the sole creation of aerospace engineer Zsolt Pataki.

The concept features a lightweight monolithic construction pen with continuous outer contour and hexagonal sides reminiscent of a supersonic airfoil which enable it to lay stable on a desk.


The pen is manufactured out of Grade 23 titanium to tolerances of a few microns on a benchtop lathe. After each machining step results are manually checked in order to maintain top quality.

Base material is a raw bar of Ti6Al4V ELI which is a high-performance titanium alloy combining low weight with extreme strength and corrosion resistance exhibiting supreme biocompatibility.


Barrel, section and cap of the pen are turned on a CNC machine then hand finished to achieve an exact fit of components and surfaces of highest accuracy in my workshop in Budapest, Hungary.

Ultimately the pen receives a proprietary surface hardening followed by micro-bead blasting which provide it with excellent scratch resistance and is finally completed with a titanium nib.
